What Hacker News says?

  1. > To make it easier to take advantage of PostgreSQL’s extensibility, PostgreSQL 13 adds the concept of a "trusted extension," which allows database users to install extensions that a superuser marks as "trusted." Certain built-in extensions are marked as trusted by default, including pgcrypto, tablefunc, hstore, and more. Wow, that should make setting up a new installation easier. It looks like trigrams are marked a…

  3. There are things like TimescaleDB[0] that build on PG to give you columnar support. Time series DBs need to handle a ton of entries and be able to slice on the column which is supported by vanilla PG[1] but most of the security tools are not looking to timeseries PG largely. 7. That is not entirely true. Binaries in the packaging systems might not be compiled for the most recent atomic instructions which can really affect performance. https://blog.dbi-services.com/aws-postgresql-on-graviton2-aa... https://github.com/microsoft/STL/issues/488 We are about 9-14 months away from the right pieces making their way through the software ecosystems where this will be almost a non-issue. 11. Because we wanted transactions signed with the key of the transactor and a complete audit history (ideally one that couldn't be tampered with, even by an admin). By using ethereum, we didn't need to write microservices to front the database, we didn't need to configure the database (not trivial if you want serializability https://blog.dbi-services.com/oracle-serializable-is-not-ser... ), we didn't need to write any…

  13. The most important code management tool SQL has are views and the WITH clause. https://modern-sql.com/use-case/literate-sql Something like "polymorpihc" views would be extremley useful, but is not there yet (in standard SQL). In other areas there are sublte features like the explicit WINDOW clause to avoid repeating similar OVER clauses. Breifly mentioned at the end of this doc: https://www.postgresql.org/docs/curre…

I was reading https://blog.dbi-services.com/using-tmux-for-semi-interactiv... last week and though it was a great idea, so I hacked this vim plugin to make it easier.
