  5. Have you looked into Salesforce DX? ( https://developer.salesforce.com/blogs/2018/02/getting-start... ) >- develop locally. - easily backup using source control. - contribute to or create open source projects easily. It addresses all of these concerns nicely. I'm also a full-time SF developer and am finding the transition to DX a bit rough, to be honest.

  7. Salesforce is essentially a database as a service with some fancy admin panels and prebuilt web interfaces. The tech is proprietary, and not that fun to work with. [0] As someone who has worked extensively with Salesforce, the cult like fanbase is annoying. I'll be the first to admit the tech is underwhelming and in many cases nowhere near other modern technology.[1][2][3] But, I still 100% recommend Salesforce to c…

  11. Meanwhile this is what Salesforce does for their AppExchange applicants: https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.packagingG... . [Edit] I should add that an annual listing is $150 and the initial security review is $2550, so no free cheese either.

  13. That's what salesforce does. In our app we're on version 47.0 of their API https://test.salesforce.com/services/Soap/c/47.0 And in the latest version of the API docs they have details regarding old versions. 17. I have never had it be every now and then. It is always bullshit, the first time around. Usually followed by, "You ignored the first three rules, and all the examples, try again." I have worked with some amazingly incompetent devs. Some promoted into place to become someone else's problem, and some parachuted in through connections, and never once have they brought the continuous and unevolving frustration of modern…

  19. As snuxoll writes, Salesforce does use a shared database with tenant_id (org_id) as a column on every table. You can read a lot about our multi-tenancy mechanisms in a whitepaper published a while back [ https://developer.salesforce.com/page/Multi_Tenant_Architect... ].

Salesforce databases are code and no code manipulated and should already carry most of the business and customer data and offer several different off the shelf products for plugging other data sources in. For most companies, it could cover the majority of what their legacy IT department does, and for many companies in the Bay Area it handles everything, except their product…

  29. There are concerns with CSS in JS, but the arguments in this blog post are all very weak or non existant. Structural/Behavioral Vs Graphical The introduction of component based tools changes how we design and build our application.
