  11. Fastly largely runs on Varnish, it seems: https://www.fastly.com/blog/benefits-using-varnish >At the core of Fastly is Varnish, an open source web accelerator that’s designed for high-performance content delivery. Varnish is the key to being able to accelerate dynamic content, APIs, and logic at the edge.

  13. Just a callout that Fastly provides free bot detection, CDN, and other security services for FOSS projects, and has been for 10+ years https://www.fastly.com/fast-forward (disclaimer, I work for Fastly and help with this program) Without going into too much detail, this tracks with the trends in inquiries we're getting from new programs and existing members. A few years ago, the requests were almost exclusively rela…

  15. This is what I call good marketing! There's dozens of CDNs to choose from ( https://www.cdnplanet.com/ ), with the best one obviously being https://fastly.com However, for most companies it's a wash which CDN to pick. Unless you're serving media to a large audience the cost is usually in the low triple digits. And unless you need to serve problematic regions (parts of Asia, Africa), there is barely a difference in p…

  17. The UDP optimizations are already there and have been pretty much wrung out. https://www.fastly.com/blog/measuring-quic-vs-tcp-computatio... has good details and was done almost five years ago. The solution isn't in more UDP offload optimizations as there aren't any semantics in UDP that are expensive other than the quantity and frequency of datagrams to be processed in the context of the QUIC protocol that uses UDP…

  21. OP mentioned blocking cloud providers but didn’t explicitly mention CDNs, and at least with AWS their IP list allows you to filter out CloudFront. I don’t know of a list of second tier relay operators for iCloud Private Relay but I do know that Fastly[1] and Cloudflare[2] were going to be participating, and presumably other CDNs with their larger number of POPs compared to most VPS providers would be logical choices…

  23. Not expose the server IP is one practice (obfuscation) in a list of several options. But that alone would not solve the problem being a RCE from HTTP, that is why edge proxy provider like Cloudflare[0] and Fastfy[1] proactivily added protections in his WAF products. Even cloudflare had an outage trying to protect his customers[3]. - [0] https://blog.cloudflare.com/waf-rules-react-vulnerability/ - [1] https://www.fas…
