This - http://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2014/12/its-a-snap.html - is a much nicer intro to Snappy and how closely it is tied to Docker. The surprising thing is that you cannot run Snappy on Docker - but perhaps there is the whole inception like thing going on there. Docker -> Snappy -> Docker -> Snappy.....

  15. It's not about ideological purity, but about respecting the GPLv2. https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2016/feb/25/zfs-and-linux/ IANAL but Canonical's justification for the ZFS kernel module and Linux kernel being totally separate works, and the distribution itself not being a derivative work of GPLv2 seems dubious to me. https://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2016/02/zfs-licensing-and-li... 19. No, it is not. > A team of sharp developers at Microsoft has been hard at work adapting some Microsoft research technology to basically perform real time translation of Linux syscalls into Windows OS syscalls. 29. There is a huge amount more than a kernel and a shell in a Linux distro. There is of course a package manager, which is usually written in python. There are all the utils to configure hardware and file systems (mkfs, mount, raid, ip, etc). The minimal Ubuntu is 63MB compressed[1], although it is not strictly comparable with a BSD base, as the BSDs include compilers in the base system. [1] http://blog.dustinkirkland.…
