What Hacker News says?
>I also think firms should be able to buy "blank space." For example facebook or amazon could pay NOT to have an ad above their result. Maybe they already do, I dont see an ad when I search facebook, however I do see an ad for amazon above the top amazon result. Backblaze had a competitor who bought ads for the search term "backblaze". The CEO successfully contacted the competitor CEO and they agreed they'd be in a…

HN discussionBackblaze's B2 is an S3 near-clone: https://www.backblaze.com/b2/cloud-storage.html I don't know about reliability, but it's a fraction of the price of S3.

HN discussionAs you mentioned, huge fan of Backblaze B2. No affiliation, just a satisfied customer. Can also pair it with Cloudflare for even less expensive traffic serving. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze-and-cloudflare-part...

HN discussionGetting something for cheaper because of marketing-driven pricing, wasting time dealing with empty shells you don't want, reimbursing the customer... You have all those elements when backblaze was shucking drives en masse, but nobody would say that was fraud in any way. https://www.backblaze.com/blog/backblaze_drive_farming/ If you intentionally sell a product for cheaper than you buy it to build market share (I thi…

HN discussionThere are a limited number of hard drive manufacturers. All of them had reliability issues at some point. Like the IBM "deathstar" and the Seagate "failacuda", I don't know about an equivalent from WD. Reliability come and go, and you don't even know when you buy because problems can take years to develop, and it is dependent on usage. Backblaze does a survey every quarter, here is the latest one https://www.backbla…

HN discussionI don't want to feel like an advertisement, but here are some "expensive" services that make me feel that I'm using their product instead of being their product. The following are some services I'm proud to pay their amount for. https://www.fastmail.com/ for email https://vimeo.com/ for 4K HD video uploads https://www.backblaze.com/ for backup https://www.rackspace.com/cloud/files for sharing files and photos to peo…
