What Hacker News says?

  1. I had been thinking about how people communicate with each other on the internet and I got really interested in how websites facilitate that communication. I figured learning how to code would be a good way to see how those websites work and maybe even get to help build them myself. I wrote a little about this here - http://blog.jenniferdewalt.com/post/53231496490/week-11-lets...

  3. This kind of dedication is inspiring. From http://blog.jenniferdewalt.com/post/51616616313/day-58-explo... : "Tomorrow I head to Pennsylvania to host a bridal shower and bachelorette weekend for my sister. Between the pre-wedding festivities and visiting with family, I’m going to be pretty limited on time for building websites. But, the show must go on and I am excited to see what kind of goodness I can create under…

  5. Thanks. When she was at 115 days, she wrote a blog post and it pretty much summarises her learning path. http://blog.jenniferdewalt.com/post/56319597560/im-learning-...

  13. Thank you! Electro bounce is one of my favorites as well :) 180 websites is mostly Rails backed. The first 68 pages are served out of the public folder and almost everything else was done with Rails. The last week is all done with Node.js. YumHacker uses Rails as an API on the backend, and Backbone,js for the front end. Zube uses Node.js and Backbone.js. Edit: Here's a blog post I wrote after finishing the 180 Websi…

  15. I'd like to do this too. Is there any interest in creating a subreddit for people who're interested in doing their own "game/website/app every day/week/month"? Just a place to chat about what they're doing, encourage and inspire each other, etc. It's inspiring to read about projects like these. 16. >I don't know what it was but it probably wasn't coding. You're right, I wasn't coding. I waste a lot of time on the internet not being productive, so I'll change this. I signed up for a codecademy account recently, so I'll challenge myself by doing some exercises there daily. >So now you have to ask yourself, what are you willing to give up? I think I'm finally ready to give up all of my distractions. I'm getting s…

  17. To be frank with you, start working, hard. This is going to be your largest huddle. When you read this message, what were you doing? On Facebook (or some other social media)? On some game? Watching your giant Netflix queue? I don't know what it was but it probably wasn't coding. And if it was, then good! You're already on your way. I honestly don't mean any of that to be mocking. I am just saying, a lot of people fa…
