What Hacker News says?
You are not wrong on some of your comments...which is why some time ago i set up a single-person account (with my own test domain) with zoho...to see if they're a viable replacement. I had used (and abandoned) a free zoho account like almost 10 year ago...but then read the following post, which re-interested me in zoho (though now via a paid account): https://kevq.uk/reasons-why-zoho-mail-is-better-than-gmail/ So fa…

HN discussionSimple.css is a well done classless 'framework'. I stumbled on it a while back and started using it and thought this can be my go-to styles for tit-bits of websites that I do for landing pages, family websites etc. However, this is pretty opinionated (including some animations) and I had to abandon it. But I remained inspired by its simplicity and forked my own[1] broke it down. I broke it down to the most basic, bu…

HN discussionMastodon provides you with a 'federated timeline'. Basically your feed is a list of all posts the instance your account is on knows about, based on what the instance owners have configured. So you see all the posts directly from users in your instance, made on your instance, and also posts from other users in your subset of the fediverse, determined by what other instances your instance peers with. You can interact…

HN discussionSame here, i have little to no use for any of google's other services...i just need solid email service with my custom domain name. My early tests with zoho show it to be pretty good. Also, i follow @kevq , and he seems to be happy with zoho: https://kevq.uk/reasons-why-zoho-mail-is-better-than-gmail/ Cheers!

HN discussionFor me it boils down to a number of reasons: 1) It’s simple to use and allows me to focus on content. 2) It’s widely supported with a rich community. 3) It just works. The whole security issues piece is a misnomer IMO. Wordpress has had security vulnerabilities, but the reputation of “Wordpress is easy to hack” is down to poor quality admins, rather than poor quality WP code a lot of the time. I wrote about this top…

HN discussionI intend to add some best practices for optimising a site over time. I only set this up a couple of days ago. :-) However, I don't think it will ever be available to "average" people (those who spin up a free WP theme that know little to nothing about web design) mainly because many of them will have very little inclination to learn this stuff. I do have https://mylight.website which takes people through creating a…
