Why HN links it

HN readers link these posts as alternatives to global config variables in Python and as a 2020 minimal version of how React works. Commenters cite them as related reading rather than praising the writing.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I'd be interested as to how dumb-ol' polling would compare here (the FOR UPDATE SKIP LOCKED method https://leontrolski.github.io/postgres-as-queue.html ). One day I will set up some benchmarks as this is the kind of thing people argue about a lot without much evidence either way. Wasn't aware of this AccessExclusiveLock behaviour - a reminder (and shameless plug 2) of how Postgres locks interact: https://leontrolski…

  3. Largely I agree with the author's sentiment, but I'm not sure I totally agree with some of the alternatives. For example I think using an @lru_cache decorator over a `get_...()` function to return variables is much better at all than using a global var. In fact, it looks hackier if you ask me. https://leontrolski.github.io/sane-config.html

  7. Mithril is the React Facebook would have written if its devs didn't have too much time on their hands - it's wonderfully simple. I stole their API somewhat for my 33-line-React, if you have any interest in how stuff works under the hood - check it out! https://leontrolski.github.io/33-line-react.html

  17. Author here, thanks for the feedback. This is v. much a work-in-progress, I'm in the process of trying to build something non-trivial with it. Just a couple of things to address in general from the comments so far: - I'm aware of dhall, jsonnet and friends, I think they're cool, but I think the most important for me is this is just js - that means nothing new to learn + you can use it from front end code + free lint…
