What Hacker News says?
Meta commentary, most comments take this like a personal matter. The biggest picture feels obvious but unspoken: there's a massive dearth of good things to get up to, to commit to, even for the capable & willing. The job ought, to a degree, be it's own reward, especially for knowledge/creative work. Yeah, there could well be a host of other concerns/blockers. And maybe this person is just stuck & unable to find good…

HN discussionSorry to hear you're going through this. I can definitely understand some of where you are coming from too. Earlier in the year I wrote a bunch of stuff as work was making me fed up and very low. It's doing the same again now so I'm rereading what I wrote. Sometimes writing things down can release a bit of mental pressure. https://www.lloydatkinson.net/posts/2022/my-thoughts-on-what...

HN discussionI find this extremely relatable actually. So much so I wrote two articles on it. You're not alone OP - micromanagement, pointless requirements that have been (sometimes deliberately) misinterpreted from user requests, treating developers as worthless replacable tools, constant time pressure, big Agile ™, is honestly killing the industry. https://www.lloydatkinson.net/posts/2022/my-thoughts-on-what... https://www.llo…

HN discussionNeat, my site is on the list but don’t remember if I submitted it before. I made some notes on implementing IndieWeb WebMentions here [1]. It’s like a decentralised/psuedo-fediverse commenting system that features replies and likes etc. [1]: https://www.lloydatkinson.net/notes/19/

HN discussionLooks interesting - I would like to try this library out to compare it with Fuse that I wrote about here https://www.lloydatkinson.net/posts/2022/writing-a-fuzzy-sea... Also as this is a new library I highly recommend either fully dropping commonjs support or at least creating a ES module version and showing how to use that instead.

HN discussionTypeScript's type system can be very powerful and flexible - creating types at build time in a manner of speaking. Here's an article I wrote on an aspect of this called mapped types. You can see how types can be composed of other types. https://www.lloydatkinson.net/posts/2022/going-further-with-...

HN discussionHad a quick look but I was surprised to see using a Set. Personally I use a plain string union. If I need to lookup a value based on that I’ll usually create a record (which is just a stricter object). Typescript will error if I tried to add a duplicate. This is all enforced at build time, whereas using a Set only happens at runtime. type Fruit = ‘apple’ | ‘banana’; const lookup: Record<Fruit, string> = { ‘apple’: ‘…

HN discussionNo demo to try it out? How does it compare to Fuse? I used that recently to write a search component in Preact for my site. https://www.lloydatkinson.net/posts/2022/writing-a-fuzzy-sea... I might make a branch to try out Lyra and compare results.
