What Hacker News says?
I've been working on thanks.dev for over two years now & reading this report is disappointing to say the least. Why not spend the time to explain the value XZ Utils created for all the commercial users & what companies can do to better supporting maintainers with hundreds of issues experiencing burnout from their unpaid work? OpenSSF should instead promote FOSS programs like https://frontendmasters.com/blog/how-were…

HN discussionImagine someone made Deno with a corresponding course to go along with it. I would consider that a grift. https://frontendmasters.com/courses/remix/ That was the end goal for this whole thing. I do look at the pricing page (what are you trying to sell constantly?) on anything people put up on the internet and judge from there. You can have the last word and put in a testimonial for Remix, since I won't be budging on…

HN discussion> React takes us forward in the sense that most of us don't want to go back to direct DOM manipulation There was recently a demo of what a Todo MVC app might look like if written in vanilla JS with today's apis. It looks fairly decent; I could see myself going back to something like that: https://frontendmasters.com/blog/vanilla-javascript-todomvc/

HN discussion"From full stack engineering to DevOps practitioner, our industry loves to pretend everyone can do everything." To me, this gets to the heart of the matter. As example, I present the required skillset for a front-end engineer: https://frontendmasters.com/guides/front-end-handbook/2018/ See the index on the left. Do you need to know everything about all of these things for every single project? No. But as you grow in…

HN discussionI recently went through Sarah Drasner's workshop "Design for developers" https://frontendmasters.com/workshops/design-for-devs/ It went through exactly the points you mention in good detail. And she also showed implementation of some of these ideas on the web.

HN discussionThat matches with the comment [1] on the article, citing insufficient demand, no vendor enthusiasm, etc. The thing is that all those are non-reasons that don't really explain anything: Low demand is hard to believe if this feature is requested for 20 years straight and there are all kinds of shim implementations using scripts, backend engines, etc. (And low demand didn't stop other features that the vendors were int…

HN discussionI wrote this in Elm: https://ixberg.com . (feel free to sign up, use it, share it). I learned Elm by going to an intro course at Lambdaconf, and watching this https://frontendmasters.com/courses/elm/ and coding in it. Elm was my first PURE functional language. I've done some Scheme before. Backend is Firebase. No special libraries in particular. No regrets.

HN discussionThey're not free, but Jen Kramer's CSS courses on Frontend Masters are very good, and are pretty recent. https://frontendmasters.com/teachers/jen-kramer/ I attempted CSS back when you had to float anything/everything for positioning and found it extremely confusing. I recently picked it back up, and flexbox and grid make it sooo much easier. I feel like I'm finally getting it.
