I wholeheartedly suggest a combination of diet and exercises (many can be made at home). I recently discovered Nerd Fitness, a blog directed to nerds that is getting some attention (Steve Kamb, the man behind it, gave talks to Google and FB) and it is pretty much changing my life. I am not saying that this is the cure, but from my experience with depression I think that much of it is related to physical activity and…

I believe that regular exercise and switching to a proper diet (paleo) helped me give up on alcohol altogether. I'd recommend you start kicking you own butt: go to http://www.nerdfitness.com/academy-overview-page/ and subscribe, start building a routine. Stick to it and you'll quickly see that abusive drinking isn't just an option.

  5. I'm surprised no one has mentioned the website NerdFitness ( http://nerdfitness.com/blog/ ) yet. Steve runs a really great blog for those looking to get started doing fitness. The forum there is a good place to ask basic fitness questions too.

To anybody trying to get back in shape, I can't recommend Nerd Fitness ( http://www.nerdfitness.com/ ) enough. I used it to get back in shape 2 or 3 years ago, it's very approachable even with no real fitness knowledge. I am not affiliated. Bottom line though: - Fix your diet (whatever works for you, for me it was getting rid of carbs), - Make time for this and build up the routine (I get most of my workouts done in…

  9. Taking your question seriously, yes. Two major schools of thought are "prescriptive" vs. "descriptive". This terms are usually applied to the noun "grammar" but it works for vocabulary, too. See: http://amyrey.web.unc.edu/classes/ling-101-online/tutorials/... Descriptively, breakfast is clearly an early-morning meal eaten within an hour or two of the end of sleep. There is also, at least in America where I can speak…

When I first started getting in better health and shape years ago, two resources helped me learn, provide structure, and form habits. One is a lengthy blog post and the other one is a popular book. Both are simple and accessible in their approach. 13. Second that. I used to have constant shoulder issues with my mouse arm. As long as I'm being active with my shoulder I'm good. CrossFit, yoga, slack lining, it doesn't matter what you do, but not being physically active is a detriment to your well being. Everyone owns it to themselves to live healthy! So true. nerdfitness.com has some great articles on this mindset, especially 'Underpants Gnomes': http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2012/04/05/underpants-gnomes... There are many, many books, videos and sites that will tell you exactly what to do. The issue is not that "there is nothing that will give you a grocery list and workout plan"; the issue is that you don't think that the ones you find are 100% optimized for…

Go to nerdfitness.com and poke around at the free options ( http://nerdfitness.com/blog/top-posts/ ). Take a cue from to OP's site and do a 12-week challenge. During the 12 weeks eat the best eating plan you can manage for at least 5 days/week and don't go crazy on weekends. Keep workouts intense, short, and keep challenging yourself. After the 12 weeks reassess -- maybe you'll be willing to spend some money. At 1-2…
