Why HN links it
HN comments link this Rails blog as a reference for Rails developer tooling: gem vendoring, sparklines, uptime monitoring, editors and CSS graphs. No comment judges the writing itself.

What Hacker News says?
Reminds me of developing rails apps way back in the day before RVM gemsets or bundler came along. You'd vendor all the gems (& specific version for your app) into `vendor/gems` ala http://nubyonrails.com/articles/2005/12/22/freeze-other-gems...

HN discussionSome people seem to be investigating Emacs, from the world that had Textmate become popular! http://nubyonrails.com/articles/emacs-emacs I've personally jumped to Vim. Mostly beacuse I do some sysadmin and now it's much less annoying editing config files, but also so I can jump from OS X and still be able to work.

HN discussionI use two different scripts: 1. dwatch http://nubyonrails.com/articles/2006/03/29/surviving-rails-1... 2. a PHP script that accesses a URL on the other server; if the server does not respond as expected, it sends me a SMS and emails the server admin
