This is in the cards for Ruby 3. The plan is to migrate away from a global interpreter lock to "guilds" which are akin to execution contexts. These guilds also have a locking mechanism that allows for parallelism which they call the "global guild lock." 5. This is a great opportunity to remind everyone that http://shields.io/ has been providing high quality SVG badges for all your repo metadata needs for 5 years now. Even if Shields doesn't support the specific third-party service integration you're looking for you can generate a badge using the incredibly simple image API: - https://img.shields.io/badge/hacker-news-orange.svg - https://img.shields.io/badge/rate-limit…

  7. Howdy, author of the post here. I do address this issue in an earlier post: https://olivierlacan.com/posts/loud-and-clear/ And generally every single mic recommendation I give in the linked post has a cardioid pickup pattern which is precisely what can help isolate stray noise in places with louder environments. Software like Zoom will do the rest of the work for you depending on how aggressive the noise control set…

  9. Sure thing, but it's evolved quite a bit since then. We've introduced a versioning system a few weeks ago, and we now have 8 translations other than English thanks to contributors, so I'd wager it's newsworthy. :-) I've covered these recent changes in a post that didn't quite make it to the front page recently: http://olivierlacan.com/posts/logging-changes-all-over-the-w...

  11. That’s the plan with Guilds: http://www.atdot.net/~ko1/activities/2018_rubyconf2018.pdf These are the slides for Koichi Sasada’s RubyConf 2018 (last week) talk updating the community on his progress in the design and implementation of Guilds. Surprising that the author isn’t aware of this planned CRuby feature announced in 2016. I wrote about it then: https://olivierlacan.com/posts/concurrency-in-ruby-3-with-gu... T…

  13. Hey, Shields creator here. One of the most important features of Shields since the very beginning was to offer a conventional usable and user-centered style to fight the vendor badge arms race between all the developer SaaS companies that were sprouting up around 2012/2013. See: https://olivierlacan.com/posts/an-open-source-rage-diamond/ Please consider contributing to Shields if you want to improve Python ecosystem…
