Why HN links it
HN commenters mostly point to Ona, a cloud dev-environment and coding-agent service formerly called Gitpod, and link its stories and docs. No comment judges the writing itself.

HN discussionCEO at Ona (formerly Gitpod) here. Every ephemeral environment Ona creates can directly connect to your Desktop IDE for easy handoff. Our team goes from prompt -> iterating in conversation -> VS Code Web -> VS Code Desktop/Cursor depending on task complexity and quality of the agent output. We call this progressive engagement and have written about it here https://ona.com/docs/ona/best-practices#progressive-engageme…

HN discussionWhen this article talks about ONA it means https://ona.com/ - a cloud agent service that was acquired by OpenAI a couple of months ago. (I wouldn't suggest basing my evaluation of the entire field of coding agents around that particular product.)

HN discussionYou run the agent in a tightly controlled remote environment / VM designed for this use-case (at least the SSH/command piece). Ona ( https://ona.com ) is a great choice. (full disclosure: Ona co-founder here)

HN discussionDisclaimer: I work for Ona. I can't speak for other providers, but the way we handle state is by persisting to mounted volumes that are re-mounted on restart. I'd argue that there are a few different types of sandboxes, as there are sandboxes designed for pure code execution, such as in an LLM chat, and there are more longer-lived dev environments more like a standard development environment, etc (we are the latter)…
