Who's behind this site? I don't see any credits in the footer or an about page, and the `whois` record is vague and scant on details: https://who.is/whois/ilovemdn.org Is the OP behind it? https://www.peterbe.com/

HN discussionI don't really have a strong opinion in the game but mind you that MongoDB is pretty darn fast http://www.peterbe.com/plog/fastestdb At least when you're not at scale. And it's pretty cool that you can make a choice between fast writes or safe writes. You can't have both but at least you can have the choice. Having said all that, I generally prefer Postgres in almost every possible case. However, this RethinkDB proj…

HN discussionLikewise +1 to Nginx + uwsgi. In the various performance benchmarks* uwsgi beats gunicorn, and uwsgi comes bundled with Nginx now, so there's really no reason to bother with setting up gunicorn any more. * http://www.peterbe.com/plog/fcgi-vs-gunicorn-vs-uwsgi http://nichol.as/benchmark-of-python-web-servers

HN discussionI use a similar tool on my personal site (www.peterbe.com) It also inlines all CSS but only does so with the selectors that are actually ever used. Go to http://www.peterbe.com/plog/mincss and click to view source. 120Kb of bootstrap excess baby!

HN discussionThere are benchmarks around [1], though I consider them valuable only for the entertainment value. The great thing about uWSGI/Nginx over Gunicorn/Nginx is that Nginx speaks the uwsi protocol natively[2], whereas with Gunicorn Nginx acts as a proxy. Also, in my experience (2 years with gunicorn, 1 with uwsgi in prod), uwsgi is more stable, uses less memory, has better management and configuration tools and even lets…

HN discussion> fine but this is entirely irrelevant. the problem is that no one was optimizing for the deliverable (JavaScript). the GWT folks could have easily written an excellent compiler so it didnt generate a bunch of slow trash. Compilers can only optimize so much. GWT/Closure do a very good job of it, too. https://www.peterbe.com/plog/advanced-closure-compiler-vs-ug... Much of the "slow trash" is already optimized to deat…

HN discussionIf you CAN use it for one page at a time, excellent. If not, you have to be more careful. Here's an example of using it on just one page at a time http://www.peterbe.com/plog/mincss-in-action

HN discussionYour choice. You can feed mincss a bunch of different URLs and or different .html files and it'll work out the CSS in that. (Note: even if you feed it the raw HTML as a string you need to give it a URL) Or, you do one page at a time. However that's slow and will only be an option if you have serious caching.
