What Hacker News says?
There's still quite a range of "dumb" phones available. A concern of mine is always: can I sync it to my computer. As far as my research went, you don't get that, at least with entry level phones from Nokia (105/106). That's especially annoying as it wouldn't require much effort. On a pretty different note, I'm surprised nobody ever mentioned Punkt phones [1,2] on HN. From a design standpoint, also taking durability…

HN discussionNothing compares to the Punkt MP01 and MP02 IMO. I've had the MP01 for years and it's fantastic, the only issue has been with service and I imagine that would be resolved with the MP02 and 4g. https://www.punkt.ch/en/products/mp02-4g-mobile-phone/ There's also the Lightphone and forthcoming Lightphone II. That being said, these won't really address privacy concerns per se. They don't support signal or other encrypte…

HN discussionFor a while I was tempted to get a minimalist phone like the Punkt MP02 [0] or Mudita Pure [1], but in the end I could not give up on: - A camera (to snap pictures of our kids) - A map for navigation - Authentication apps for banking There seem to be a few success stories in the comments. I'd be curious to hear how they made up for the missing features I listed... [0] https://www.punkt.ch/en/products/mp02-4g-mobile-…

HN discussionIn addition to being a security hazard, lots of countries (e.g. Canada) are phasing out or have already removed their 2G networks. Fortunately they have announced a 4G model coming soon which I am keeping my eye on: https://www.punkt.ch/en/mp02-4g-mobile-phone/

HN discussionHas anybody mentioned the Punkt MP-01? https://www.punkt.ch/en/products/mp01-mobile-phone/ I've had it for 2-3 years now and it's been pretty great. Granted service can be kinda spotty because it's 2G and I'm not sure how much longer it will be viable when 2G is phased out. It's also very expensive compared to dumb alternatives but I don't know of any other phone on the market that is so clean in terms of physical d…

HN discussionYou might try this. I can’t vouch for it but the concept seems interesting to me. https://www.punkt.ch/en/products/mp02-4g-mobile-phone/ It’s a small candy bar phone but maybe not square enough to fit in your wallet.
