R3 CEV | http://r3cev.com | London, UK | ONSITE R3 is designing a next-gen distributed database in which the nodes in the peer-to-peer network making it up don't trust each other. Then we're building financial apps on top, because finance is the industry that can benefit from this technology the most. Many startups in this space are building on top of the Nakamoto blockchain algorithm, but we don't actually use a Bi…

HN discussionAre you suggesting that Consensys, Microsoft, R3CEV and Red Hat are only developing on Ethereum because of clever marketing? There isn't some technical merit to the platform that means they are doing this? Why didn't these companies develop their products on Bitcoin? Are they incapable of due diligence in this space? https://consensys.net/ http://www.blockapps.net/ https://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/blog/ethereum-blo…

HN discussionInteresting, my original understanding was that they were using the blockchain for uniqueness for Corda, but it looks like it's optional: https://r3cev.com/blog/2016/4/4/introducing-r3-corda-a-distr... This somewhat makes sense since one of Corda's departures is that consensus and validation are limited in scope to the participants.

HN discussionOne of the best explanations of why Business Blockchain is not like Bitcoin or its assorted altcoins is actually this post from the R3 Consortium: https://r3cev.com/blog/2016/4/4/introducing-r3-corda-a-distr... Their Corda Distributed Ledger Designed for Financial Services seems the most sensible of all the Business Blockchain approaches: after careful consideration of the fact that the Bitcoin-style blockchain was…

HN discussionMicrosoft seem to be more interested in Ethereum [0]. They introduced an Ethereum blockchain-as-a-service offering on Azure [1] last year, and they are working with R3 [2] and some other Ethereum-using players in the much-hyped blockchain space. They seem to have decided that Ethereum is a better solution than Bitcoin for a broad set of applications, and they're probably right. I do think Microsoft's move is indicat…

on “Microsoft Store doesn't accept Bitcoin anymore”>Immutable peer-to-peer ledgers have numerous use-cases And that's why we have git. The only good bit is the Merkle trees, which were invented in 1979. ("Why yes, Mr Buzzwordsusceptible Uppermgt, we've been using blockchain technologies for years! Even before Bitcoin was invented!" i.e. git has Merkle trees in) Seriously, I've been looking into "business blockchain". There are zero use cases except for the Merkle tr…
