What Hacker News says?

  1. We wrote a free screen reader simulator for this purpose (Chrome plugin): https://silktide.com/resources/toolbar It’s not a substitute for real-world testing, but it should help you appreciate the basics without having to learn a full screen reader. We’re also working on some accessibility games right now (scores challenges for you to complete in a browser with a simulated disability), which sound a lot like what yo…

  3. Regarding the cookie warning, I was mostly thinking about this infographic humorously describing the delta between what was originally intended and what was eventually implemented [ https://silktide.com/app/uploads/2013/01/Cookie-Law-infograp... ]. As well as the ICO back-pedaling from explicit consent to implied consent ( https://www.out-law.com/articles/2013/january/ico-to-change-... ). I take it the actual implem…

  5. Even more realistically: is there any reason to assume any of this stuff will ever be enforced, let alone enforced against obscure forums? Here in the UK, these sorts of laws have had, as far as I know, zero enforcement. http://nocookielaw.com/ https://silktide.com/the-stupid-cookie-law-is-dead-at-last/ https://silktide.com/dear-ico-this-is-why-web-developers-hat...

  7. Yes I look forward to the day that idiotic law is overturned. It sort of almost did die ( https://silktide.com/the-stupid-cookie-law-is-dead-at-last/ ), but the idiots in charge bought it back.

Their infographic is hilarious: https://silktide.com/images/uploads/images/Cookie-Law-infogr... But I can't see this changing in the medium term without some high-profile fines; someone needs to fine a major media company or similar simply for having Google analytics enabled. Then everyone will shout about their world collapsing, and try to find new forms of allowed dark pattern. Really the only way to get out ahead…
