Insurers are absolutely already starting to monitor driving habits[1] and offering discounts for home monitoring devices[2]. Large property/casualty insurance companies are sophisticated competitors that don't hesitate to invest in promising new technologies or…

One example: if you don’t get it from State Farm, you can pay 30% more in insurance costs. https://www.statefarm.com/insurance/auto/discounts/drive-saf...

  12. In the US, car insurance gives discounts for all sorts of things and charges bad (really, high risk) drivers more. For example: https://www.statefarm.com/insurance/auto/resources/high-risk...

I am saying the implication that this was an assassination is tinfoil level of crazy because it’s a very avoidable accident and anyone doing even a minimum level of investigation or having ever taken a drivers Ed course should know. 14. That's not what this is. This is similar to what legacy auto insurers use to price risk using a mobile phone app or a telemetry device to gather data about your driving habits [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]. Tesla's primary use case was risk rating drivers for FSD beta access, but the secondary use case (or more likely, an adjacent use case with delayed deployment, never let a code path go to waste) is improving risk rating th…

  16. I doubt it. There are so many vehicles, especially historically, from Toyota Tacomas, Jeep Wranglers, Honda Civics, to yes, Porsche 911s that are available with both AT and MT. Considering the number of vehicles insured in the US, and the fact that you can do paired comparisons like this, if there is a meaningful difference, insurers would see it. edit: link from State Farm, a large US insurer. https://www.statefarm…
