HN discussion> The Ivermectin paper was surely bad, but it wasn't outrageously bad nor unexpectedly so. Oh, yes it was bad. Very very bad. Outrageously bad. The data was mostly fabricated: https://gidmk.medium.com/is-ivermectin-for-covid-19-based-on...

HN discussionSure, but it strikes me that people latched on to this drug as a miracle cure since this study stated that chance of dying with ivermectin was 90% less than compared with a placebo. It just strikes me that any subsequent studies should be viewed with the highest amount of skepticism. I think this epidemiologist provides a better argument than I will ever do on an online forum: https://gidmk.medium.com/is-ivermectin-…

HN discussionInteresting. He is an epidemiologist, and it looks like two papers should not have been added to the meta-analysis. He writes more about it here. The Elgazzar paper were cited in 30 other papers. https://gidmk.medium.com/is-ivermectin-for-covid-19-based-on...

HN discussionWhen analyzing data from all the significant studies (that weren't retracted) However, if you remove the Elgazzar paper from their model, and rerun it, the benefit goes from 62% to 52%, and largely loses its statistical significance. There’s no benefit seen whatsoever for people who have severe COVID-19, and the confidence intervals for people with mild and moderate disease become extremely wide. Where does that lea…

on “It’s Not Misinformation. Not to even mention that the only realistic effect it would have is blunting the effects of IL-6. on “Considerations in boosting Covid-19 vaccine immune responses”The website seems to be related to the FLCCC, which has been advocating for use of Ivermectin and fighting a lot against vaccination. My skepticism doesn't make me confident this website is as neutral as is could. And yes, there are other studies, but they're not as big and with this large study retracted, it tipped the stats towards being not as effective as it was portrayed. https://gidmk.medium.com/is-ivermectin-…
