To add to that, this recent article on HN [1] goes into a lot of great detail on how the economics of a home solar installation are part of the problem. Basically, if there were an incentive for residential solar installations to include a little bit of storage capacity, it would be a net win for the entire economy. 3. With all of the love for Tesla and their v3 of late, it's worth remembering that Tesla can and does brick their cars as well. http://syonyk.blogspot.com/2016/03/is-tesla-building-throwaw... If it has software, and automatic update capabilities, it's never yours.

  5. The explanation I’ve read (sorry, don’t recall the source) is that this system repurposed a purely advisory one that existed before, for informing the pilot about AoA. Being advisory in nature, it didn’t need duplicate sensors. Next up: you need to implement MCAS and everything is conveniently there in existing code. That, plus toxic culture for internal people doing FAA (yes, really), plus what you write, plus busi…

Two tech blogs of which I read every post: http://www.windytan.com/ - Oona Räisänen - great hacker of signal-related stuff (audio, video, wireless, etc), graphics, and more. https://syonyk.blogspot.com/ - a lot of hacking around batteries, off-grid energy, and teardowns and repairs of various devices. Non-tech related, Ken White at https://www.popehat.com/ can be quite funny, though he hasn't been posting as much la…

  11. Tesla sacrifices classic sustainability, the do-it-yourself attitude, and "openness" of their platform. http://syonyk.blogspot.com/2016/03/is-tesla-building-throwaw... I do realize that the Silicon Valley types don't care about this issue, with iPhones behind walled gardens and all that jazz (or at least, SV doesn't seem to care about it anymore... what ever happened to the vision of open source and true ownership?)…

Medium is disagreeable, but there are many blogging sites still around, and people still follow them. A good example is Syonyk's Project Blog ( https://syonyk.blogspot.com/ ). It's hosted on Blogspot, and despite being relatively recent - started in 2015, long past the peak of blogging - he already has over 2.3 million views (total), just writing interesting detailed logs of his tech and home projects.

  17. For reference on how the law can be interpreted... Tesla provides access to the service manuals by law. But they won't let you purchase them. You must rent them at $30/hr, $100/day, $350/mo, or $3000/yr. http://syonyk.blogspot.com/2016/03/is-tesla-building-throwaw...

  23. Honestly, the Raspberry Pi 4 is just fine for what it's meant to do. It's a lot of CPU for the money and it's easy to find resources on the internet. You could consider the more expensive Jetson Nano if you need a powerful GPU or if you just want to try something different. People tend to assume it's faster, but the Raspberry Pi 4 CPU actually beats it in most cases ( https://syonyk.blogspot.com/2019/11/battle-of-bo…
