What Hacker News says?

  1. We use https://tanstack.com/query/v3 + openapi-based auto-generated SDK. I would say the DX is pretty much comparable to using Apollo Client.

  7. Maybe this is a good place to ask... but I was actually considering Next.js as a replacement for Gatsby.js project that is a few years old, but is growing at a steady pace. Given all the negative sentiments, what are better alternatives? I don't even use any SSR, or GraphQL capabilities. The main thing I liked about gatsby vs previous "bring your oown library(router)" are: very little configuring, nice dev server, e…

  9. TanStack Query (formerly known as React Query) is absolutely compatible with Svelte. https://tanstack.com/query/latest I work with react for a decade now, and with Svelte for past 3 years. Svelte is obviously a newer generation of framework, and works for me a lot better than React. But I agree there are some rough edges, mostly around the ecosystem

    Depends on what you're using for routing. In Tanstack Router it's a boolean you set when creating the router. The documentation nicely lays out what's being done under the hood, and it's quite a bit.[1] I wouldn't try that at home. In React Router you just chuck a <ScrollRestoration /> somewhere in your DOM.[2] [1]: https://tanstack.com/router/v1/docs/framework/react/guide/sc... [2]: https://reactrouter.com/6.30.1/c…

  13. Just a side note - reading https://tanstack.com/db/latest/docs/guides/live-queries#reus... I see: const isHighValueCustomer = (row: { user: User; order: Order }) => row.user.active && row.order.amount > 1000 But if I'm understanding the docs correctly on this point, doesn't this have to be: const isHighValueCustomer = (row: { user: User; order: Order }) => and(row.user.active, gt(row.order.amount, 1000))

  15. This record and replay trick is very similar to what I recently used to implement the query DSL for Tanstack DB ( https://tanstack.com/db/latest/docs/guides/live-queries ). We pass a RefProxy object into the where/select/join callbacks and use it to trace all the props and expressions that are performed. As others have noted you can't use js operators to perform actions, so we built a set of small functions that we…

  17. TanStack Start has its own implementation of Server Functions: https://tanstack.com/start/latest/docs/framework/solid/guide... . It doesn't use React Server Functions, in part because it intends to be agnostic of the rendering framework (it currently supports React and Solid). To be fair, they also haven't released (even experimental) RSC support yet, so maybe they lucked out on timing here.

  21. Ya'll may want to checkout Valibot¹ or Zod² in conjunction with something like React Hook Forms³ or the more agnostic Tanstack Forms⁴. Really sweet form validation that's concise but as precise as you want it to be. The problem with vanilla form validations are (1) they're so basic that it's table stakes for any library or framework in this space, even ChatGPT can do it well, (2) there's an enormous amount of other…

  23. It's not open-source or really polished for consumption. I did get permission to open-source it, but unfortunately didn't have the time to improve it to the point where it would be broadly useful. In fact, now that https://tanstack.com/query/v4/docs/plugins/persistQueryClien... appears to be stable I'm thinking it might even be good to migrate to this (though it appears to require multiple queryclients if you want d…

  25. Solid indeed does not have the same number of options that React has when it comes to UI component libraries. I've only used Solid on small throwaway projects, but I do like it better than React. However, like you've pointed out, there's going to be things that you have to do yourself that in React you could likely depend on someone else for. For tables though, I haven't used this in Solid, but it's pretty nice in g…

  27. The JS world leaves me more and more perplexed.There's a similar rant about forms, but why is this so hard? Huge amount of dev time spent being able to execute asynchronous functions to the backend seamlessly yet pretty much every major framework is just rawdog the url string and deal with URLSearchParams object yourself. Tanstack router[1] provides first class support for not only parsing params but giving you a ty…

  29. There are so much changes for the last 15 years. You don't need to learn all that path. You need to learn modern web development from scratch, ignoring history. Right now, modern web development is: - Yarn/PNPM as package manager - TypeScript as a programming language - React as UI framework/library - React Router for navigating multiple pages - UI kit (I personally have good experience with React Material UI - http…
