What Hacker News says?
This architecture[1] requires the setup of 2 NAT gateways (one in each AZ), a routing table, an Internet Gateway, 2 Elastic IP and also the VPC. Since as before we cannot use Function URLs for Lambda we will still need the API Gateway to make HTTP calls. The only parts we are swapping out `GA -> ALB -> VPC` for `IG -> Router -> NAT -> VPC`. Is it any simpler ? Doesn't seem like it is to me. Going the NAT route means…

HN discussion(I work at Vercel) We do have DDoS protection, and spend limits. We're imminently launching improvements to both of these as well Importantly, OP was on a free tier on Netlify which does allow you to pay for additional usage on demand. Vercel's free tier does not – if you are on a hobby plan and you go over the included usage, your site will be paused automatically. 1: https://vercel.com/blog/introducing-spend-manag…

HN discussionHere's my workaround for Vercel: - Enable spend management ( https://vercel.com/team_name/~/settings/billing ). - Set webhook to pause the project: https://vercel.com/docs/rest-api/endpoints/projects#pause-a-... When the amount hits the targeted value, Vercel will call the webhook that pauses the project.

HN discussionI was searching for 'cloudflare spending limits' based on comments here, at first glance they (like Vercel) seem to have a notify don't terminate policy. What I didn't appreciate is static assets are completely free: https://developers.cloudflare.com/pages/functions/pricing/#s... So therefore I assume static cloudflare pages are free. Incidentally Vercel does seem to have an (annoyingly indirect) way of halting usag…

HN discussionGrounding in search results is what Perplexity pioneered and Google also does with AI mode and ChatGPT and others with web search tool. As a user I want it but as webadmin it kills dynamic pages and that's why Proof of work aka CPU time captchas like Anubis https://github.com/TecharoHQ/anubis#user-content-anubis or BotID https://vercel.com/docs/botid are now everywhere. HN discussionWhat do you mean? There's so many Heroku competitors these days that the perception has changed towards Heroku being a relic of "how it used to be done". Competitors like Vercel don't just do what Heroku does, they do everything better. (And now edge-first ideas like fly.io are catching on) Another start-up I've been playing with is Railway, who offers 5-10$ of free usage per month, certainly enough to play with rea…

HN discussionAbsolutely. A core goal for us is to Lower the Barrier of Entry[1] to building for the Web. Building a beautiful and fast Web experience needs to feel myspace-code-easy (or as Rich Harris puts it: it has to be fun!). I think ultimately that's what makes the Web win long term. It's open and accessible. The best way to contribute to this mission is to come in with a fresh mindset, passion and big ambitions. Please rea…
