What Hacker News says?
Cool to see this. By my count we now have, in no particular order: - React Native from Facebook ( https://github.com/facebook/react-native ) - Appcelerator's Titanium and Alloy Frameworks ( http://appcelerator.com ) - Telerik's Native Script ( http://telerik.com/nativescript ) - Xamarin ( http://xamarin.com ) As I understand it, all three of these frameworks have a JS (or C#) runtime that is compiled along with the…

HN discussionIf they use a proprietary third party library, they might not have a source distribution license of said library. The same way that you can't just unilaterally decalare an MIT licensed project is GPL without ensuring that all of the code was dual licensed or covered under a CLA. EDIT: I saw another comment that says that it's "just" the GUI applications for Windows and Mac that aren't open, but the core functionalit…

HN discussionFrontend framework they use (NUXT) uses code splitting [1], which means that: - first request is fast, because you only need to download chunks required for a single page/controller (and you prefetch others in the background) - changing some parts of codebase requires to re-download only affected chunks, instead of the whole bundle [1] https://www.telerik.com/blogs/what-you-should-know-code-spli...

HN discussionEven though web beacons / trackers like Google Analytics are fairly harmless, I still wouldn't trust them in this app because they often sit close to the main app's code and can be MITM'd to do bad things like send back snippets of a recording, or metadata about a recording like the name of the video file. That is, of course if this app has such beacons. I haven't sat between the traffic of this app (ab)using Burp S…

HN discussion> Using anonymisation proxies just makes it all the more suspicious If you're referring to the author's use of Charles Proxy, it's *not* an anonymizer or anything of the sort, it's just the macOS equivalent of Fiddler: a localhost HTTP/HTTPS proxy that lets you decrypt TLS traffic (provided the client software isn't using certificate-pinning, which it wasn't). From TFA: > Wondering how I could feed them to the app,…

HN discussionHTTP Toolkit is fully open source, primarily AGPL: https://github.com/httptoolkit/ . That includes the Pro version too - it's not open core, it's just open source all the way down. There are other tools that exist anyway, but all the big ones (Fiddler & Charles, for Windows & OSX respectively) are very much closed source. The other similar open source competitor I'm familiar with is James Proxy ( https://github.com/…

HN discussionI feel obliged to mention Fiddler. The tool I loved almost 20 years back and felt like it came from future. IIRC it was/is more powerful than Charles. Fiddler was Windows only but at one time they had builds for other platforms in works. Sadly they got acquired which changed their roadmap, and I had also moved on from Windows. https://www.telerik.com/fiddler

HN discussionUnless an android app uses certificate pinning ( https://security.stackexchange.com/questions/29988/what-is-c... ), it is usually trivial to MITM its traffic passing through your phone. Provided you own and have physical access to your phone, you can use any number of proprietary/open free/costly tools to do so. (E.g Fiddler http://www.telerik.com/fiddler , Burp https://portswigger.net/burp/ and mitmproxy https://mi…

HN discussionI really like the approach of Blazor wrt WASM, but really dislike having to dump whole code blocks into CSHTML files like I'm writing old ASP.NET Forms again. Something just feels off. Is there any way to isolate those code blocks and import them? EDIT: To answer my own question, this appears to be the solution: https://www.telerik.com/blogs/using-a-code-behind-approach-t...
