Just in case you are counting, there's another proposal in France to force backdoors: > At Tuta, we are deeply concerned about the proposed amendment to the so-called "Narcotrafic" law, which would force encrypted communication providers to implement backdoors for law enforcement. This would threaten everybody’s security and privacy and could be in conflict with European data protection legislation and Germany's IT…

  7. Tangent: Been looking to switch email providers for a while, and hadn’t heard of Tuta. Looked good enough I just went ahead and signed up… only to find out apparently they provide no real data portability whatsoever. The only option for getting your email _out_ of their systems is to select small batches of them one-by-one in their app and export them. There have been many requests for something similar to Proton’s…

  15. The essentials for me are private email, calendar & cloud storage. Here is my post-Google setup: https://tuta.com/ is a German privacy-focused alternative that I'm currently using for email & calendar. Easy switch, although I was already using web clients rather than IMAP before the switch. I looked at Proton Drive for cloud storage, but their CEO Andy Yen is a Trump supporter ( https://archive.ph/2025.01.15-162500/…

  17. I always found Tuta's exaggerated reaction ridiculous. What makes their stand even more questionable when I visit their EU alternatives [1] webpage, first category they list is 'Email', under this category only "eligible" alternative is Tuta Mail. Now, out of all alternative EU email providers they list only themselves as an alternative and expect alternative seekers to trust them? 1. https://tuta.com/blog/boycott-u…

  19. Sure ! Here you can find a list of alternatives : https://european-alternatives.eu/ I self hosting almost everything, but for a complete suite of services take at look at Infomaniak : https://www.infomaniak.com/en Protonmail ( https://proton.me/mail ) or Tutanota ( https://tuta.com/ ) for end-to-end encrypted emails, Filen ( https://filen.io/ ) for encrypted Cloud Storage

  25. https://www.tuta.com/ Is the only other major player I am aware of— although they have a significantly smaller product lineup than Proton, and aren’t as viable an alternative to Google for those who want a fully integrated suite. Tuta does Mail and Calendar fairly well, cant speak to their drive product. The other option is self hosting.
