What Hacker News says?
>I'm saying Dev culture in not paying for tools is bad. I don't know, JetBrains seems really popular to me. Off the top of my head, I know of a few commercial tools that seem to be doing ok? (judging by their continued existence), e.g. https://blackfire.io , http://undo.io , https://scrutinizer-ci.com , etc. Of course, a non-open-source programming language doesn't stand a chance today because of the massive network…

HN discussionThere is also a commercial alternative, https://undo.io/solutions/products/udb/ though I have not used it myself and I don’t know what its overhead is. (I know some of the people who work on it.)

HN discussionFor those who are looking to similar tooling in back end space, check - https://undo.io/ (It can also support Golang https://docs.undo.io/GoDelve.html ) - Mozilla RR https://rr-project.org/ - GDB https://www.gnu.org/software/gdb/news/reversible.html Unfortunately, works only in Linux. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_travel_debugging

HN discussionI love the "if you didn't fix it, it ain't fixed". It's too easy to convince yourself something is fixed when you haven't fully root-caused it. If you don't understand exactly how the thing your seeing manifested, papering over the cracks will only cause more pain later on. As someone who has been working on a debugging tool ( https://undo.io ) for close to two decades now, I totally agree that it's just weird how l…

HN discussionShameless plug: https://undo.io does everything rr can but can also work with drivers that update the process memory (or unrecorded processes or even hardware). If you need that kind of advanced usage, check it out. (Unlike rr it's not open source though - sorry! We have lots of programmes working on it full time and they insist on getting paid every month :)

HN discussion> I'm curious to hear more. What's its purpose? Sure! I'll try to illustrate the general idea, though I'm taking liberties with a few of the details to keep things simple(r). Our software (see https://undo.io ) does record and replay (including the full set of Time Travel Debug stuff - executing backwards, etc) of Linux processes. Conceptually that's similar to `rr` (see https://rr-project.org/ ) - the differences p…

HN discussion> I just wish intellij had a time travel debbuger like Visual Studio Pro. You might find our Java product interesting, it adds Time Travel Debug to IntelliJ - https://undo.io/products/java/ Undo captures everything the process does, below the JVM level, so you can reproduce / rewind any problem you record as many times as you want (and copy the recording out of production onto a dev machine to debug, etc etc). Pleas…
