What Hacker News says?

  1. So a pattern is not mandatory with Vaadin, but you can make the UI “simple” changeable with a corresponding pattern of your choice. MVP and MVVM would be good examples of this. Debugging in the frontend is not trivial, but can still be done with the appropriate setting in the properties ( https://vaadin.com/docs/latest/flow/configuration/developmen... )

  3. According to a fairly recent article (Feb 2020): > It's a common myth that you can't server side render Web Components. Turns out you can if you look in the right place. https://dev.to/steveblue/server-side-rendering-web-component... The article mentions a few libraries for this purpose. - Vaadin Router - https://vaadin.com/router - SkateJS - https://skatejs.netlify.app/ - SkateJS: Web component server-side renderin…

  5. Client-server frameworks (in JVM: http://vaadin.com/ or in JS: https://www.meteor.com/ ) are something that help (or should help) overcoming the complexity of all this. Mostly taking care of UX, communication and optimization parts. I guess they are not for those who want to build everything from scratch, but speed up teams quite a lot.

  7. Any UI library based on web components is your best bet for a 'framework-less' solution. Some more popular ones are: - Material Design Web Components, https://github.com/material-components/material-components-w... - Vaadin, https://vaadin.com/components - UI5, https://sap.github.io/ui5-webcomponents/

  13. It's not purely drag and drop, but not complex either I personally go for lit[1] and sometimes typescript, and that's it. Typically use open-wc[2] to have a starting template under a minute. Then I use any of the front-end libraries that add bells and whistles. Vaadin coming on top [3] I'm a backender, I don't have time to, nor want to learn the specificities of a framework. And I don't want my users to have to pay…

  25. I'll probably be a minority here, but I'd say: java + Vaadin [1] + raw jdbc (no ORM nonsense). On Vaadin site, you can use starter [2] to create an app template. There is no need to write javascript; most Vaadin code looks like good old desktop programming. Due Java stability, that thing will run forever and will be performant. If you want to be "cloud native" (or whatever cool name now is) in the future, you can la…
