What Hacker News says?

  1. Breeze is being ported to Qt 6, and from the screenshots I see ( https://www.volkerkrause.eu/2022/01/15/kf6-continuous-integr... , unsure what others), there are no visual changes so far. Time will tell if they change Breeze's appearance further before/after Plasma 6's release (I didn't ask about KDE's current plans). One possibility is O2 ( https://pinheiro-kde.blogspot.com/ ), a reworked theme by the author of KDE…

  3. There is some neat application for example many tickets/hotel reservation/restaurant do include them and this allow to make some email clients displays these tickets in a standard way. KDE Itinerary and Apple Wallet make use of this. For the KDE Itinerary part, you can read more on this here: https://volkerkrause.eu/ (look at the KDE Itinerary posts)

  5. Not directly related, but sometimes I do wonder how free software can compete with the services of the behemoths (maps, assistants, etc). So the other day I hit this article [1] on planet.kde.org about KDE Itinerary, an application that can store your boarding passes and offer some additional services, such as calendar integration or notifications in case your destination has a different socket type, they drive on t…

  7. I agree that mandatory encryption would massively help privacy, integrity and even compliance [1]. However, the main cost is developer-effort involved in keeping track of keys and implementing encryption. As a small project, ease of adoption has been our most important goal. However, as we work towards better WebPush compatibility [2], I personally absolutely want to promote RFC8291 encryption and make it easy to im…

  9. Looks good! I may sign up. Interestingly, I had a brief look for open source alternatives and found that KDE Itinerary[0] may do a similar thing, and that the same code has been re-used in a Nextcloud Mail extension[1]. I don't use either so haven't been able to test directly yet. But I did use a CLI tool based on the same KDE code[2] and while it doesn't output iCal it does seem to correctly extract the details fro…
