What Hacker News says?

  1. This is the takeaway here: That's how they have been serving it at scale as Ox-Alpha. This is a definitional moment.- Further quote: "Compared with our initial baseline on the same hardware, we achieved a 3× improvement in end-to-end serving performance, reaching hardware efficiency and per-token cost comparable to mainstream NVIDIA GPUs. This demonstrates that Chinese chips can support frontier-model inference effi…

  3. It looks like the $3 plan is only a promo price for the 1st month and it's actually $6/mo, or am I missing something? https://z.ai/payment?productIds=product-6caada

  7. I found using z.ai a performant and cheap alternative for some tasks: https://z.ai/subscribe?ic=VWKNBI8LR8 Costs are 6x cheaper and it's way faster and good at test writing and tool calling. It some times can be a bit messy though so use Gemini or Claude or codex for that hard problems....

  9. Also there is a fixed price Claude Code plan for GLM 4.6 from z.ai, I pay for the cheapest ($6/mo) as an alternate/fallback for Claude Code and Codex. I've been surprised by how similar in capabilities all three of them are, definitely not seeing a big CLI agent moat... GLM is maybe slightly weaker on average but on the other hand it's also solved problems where both CC and Codex got stuck in endless failure loops s…

  11. From their blog post, it's 320B total parameters and 18B active parameters, so a similar size, but slightly bigger. Regular pricing is $0.15 input, $0.50 output... but currently 50% off, making it $0.075 input and $0.25 output. That beats most of the V4 Flash providers, but not all, and obviously tokens per task may not be equivalent. I've also just noticed the blog post reveals the Artificial Analysis score - it's…

  23. you can use any model with Claude code thanks to https://github.com/musistudio/claude-code-router but in my testing other models do not work well, looks like prompts are either very optimized for Claude, or other models are just not great yet with such agentic environment I was especially disappointed with grok code. it is very fast as advertised but in generating spaces and new lines in function calling until it hi…

  25. You can try the latest GLM 4.6 https://z.ai/ . Their coding plan is $6 a month and performs on par to Sonnet 4 for my personal task. Sonnet 4.5 still has an edge though. All of ZLM’s models are also open sourced so you can run it locally if you want

  27. Worth saying that GLM-5.3 isn't GLM-5.3-Flash's "big brother" the way one might think. GLM-5.3-Flash is not GLM-5.3 scaled down. While GLM-5.3 is based on GLM-5.2, and "every gain comes from post-training" ( https://z.ai/blog/glm-5.3 ), GLM-5.3-Flash uses a newly trained multimodal base model ( https://z.ai/blog/glm-5.3-flash ).
