The cost doesn't seem that different from ag-grid[0] (which is also fairly popular) and costs like $750 per developer per year. https://www.ag-grid.com/license-pricing.php

HN discussion> I don't think there's an alternative to datatables that even comes close to being as well put together. One of my projects uses ag-Grid[1]. It works very well and doesn't depend on jQuery. There are lots of others to choose from, including FancyGrid[2] and a vanilla-JS version of datatables[3]. ag-Grid has paying enterprise clients that contractually obligate the developers to continue support. As a guarantee of f…

HN discussionI wandered into the comments to find or write the correct "before times" bit, and I think this covers everything I would've mentioned. I'll add that looking back, EXT seemed to be a bit ahead of its time. Its data/table view rivals AG Grid [0] of today. If we could've just standardized on a table view by now, but alas. HN discussionThe difference is that jQuery directly modifies the DOM while React/Vue/Angular/Svelte are all designed to react to some data and automatically render based on it. The simplest table components create an HTML structure by repeating a <TR> for an array of data you pass in, with the columns being the keys. More complex ones let you define your own components to render each row and cell, and have internal state and log…

HN discussionIt will be a heck of API to agree on. And then to implement correctly. As another poster linked ag-grid this is how API surface should look like: https://www.ag-grid.com/javascript-grid-server-side-model/

HN discussionI highly recommend ag-grid, it works well with React. The free version is MIT licensed, while the paid enterprise features are open source on Github, but not free to use. https://www.ag-grid.com/

HN discussion>But that would require some kind of open standard for portability, no? I like the approach AGGrid uses - they provide a viewport based interface that the grid uses to display data, and you can implement that interface on top of your data model - https://www.ag-grid.com/javascript-data-grid/viewport/ . Unfortunately it's only available in their enterprise version, but this approach scales to both grid and chart base…

HN discussion> Where is the native HTML datagrid Which parts of a datagrid should a browser provide? I'm familiar with AG Grid [1] and the API surface is enormous. Aligning browsers on a feature set would be challenging. Maybe there's a core set of functionality, like Flutter's GridView or QML https://doc.qt.io/qt-6/qml-qtquick-gridview.html . HN discussionLooks really interesting! I was evaluating grid/table projects a while ago for use on project where I wanted high performance with big data sets with custom row rendering and it's obviously a nontrivial problem. There's tons of libraries out there, each with their own quirks and endless issues being posted on their bug trackers. I ended up using https://www.ag-grid.com/ which started charging for features and appear…

HN discussionMaybe see how the library from https://www.ag-grid.com/ does it or just use their library. If you check how many open bugs most JS grid/table projects have, it's clear implementing a robust grid with many features is really hard. I've used ag-grid for projects before and can recommend it (works with all major UI frameworks).
