What Hacker News says?
They require the bot management config to update and propagate quickly in order to respond to attacks - but this seems like a case where updating a since instance first would have seen the panic and stopped the deploy. I wonder why clickhouse is used to store the feature flags here, as it has it's own duplication footguns[0] which could have also easily lead to a query blowing up 2/3x in size. oltp/sqlite seems more…

HN discussionI recommend checking the dataset of "YouTube dislikes": https://clickhouse.com/docs/en/getting-started/example-datas... (it is named this way because it was an archival effort to collect the information before the dislike feature was removed) It can be used to find things like the most controversial videos; top videos with a description in a certain language, etc.

HN discussionUsing ClickHouse you can also process local files in one line using clickhouse-local command tool. And it will look a lot easier: clickhouse local -q "SELECT passenger_count, COUNT(*), AVG(total_amount) FROM file(taxi.csv, 'CSVWithNames') GROUP BY passenger_count" And ClickHouse supports a lot of different file formats both for import and export (you can see all of them here https://clickhouse.com/docs/en/interfaces…

HN discussionClickHouse does not allow external connections by default. If someone wants to configure an unauthenticated access from the Internet, they have to do the following extra steps: - enable listening to the wildcard address; - remove IP filtering for the default user; - set up a no-password authentication; It is possible to ignore and turn off all guardrails that the system has by default, but it needs extra efforts. HN discussionI don't have personal experience but from a quick google it looks like default setup is to accept connections on localhost only [0], and there's a default user without capability to run SQL statements. They would have had to open remote connections and enable SQL capability for the default user (it looks like this is the first step to creating other users, the 3rd step is, removing SQL capability for default user.)…

HN discussion(Timescale DevRel here) We've recently been working through a detailed benchmark of TimescaleDB and Clickhouse. The DELETE/UPDATE question has been an intriguing story to follow - and I honestly hadn't considered the GDPR angle. ATM, Clickhouse is still OLAP focused and their MergeTree implementation does not allow direct DELETE (or UPDATE) of any data. All DELETE/UPDATE requests are applied asynchronously by (essen…
