HN discussion(Supabase employee) Edge Functions are built on the Deno runtime today, but importantly, we operate our own infrastructure and don't depend on Deno's hosted services. While Deno is winding down active development over the next year, the Deno team has committed to contributing bug and security fixes until then. And we'll continue our work with the Deno team to incorporate critical improvements to the Edge Function ru…

HN discussion[3] https://supabase.com/.well-known/security.txt That "What we promise:" section reads like a not so subtle threat framing, rather than a collaborative, even welcoming tone one might expect. Signaling a legal risk which is conditionally withheld rather than focusing on, I don't know, trust and collaboration would deter me personally from reaching out since I have an allergy towards "silent threats". But, that's jus…

HN discussionSupabase engineer here working on MCP. A few weeks ago we added the following mitigations to help with prompt injections: - Encourage folks to use read-only by default in our docs [1] - Wrap all SQL responses with prompting that discourages the LLM from following instructions/commands injected within user data [2] - Write E2E tests to confirm that even less capable LLMs don't fall for the attack [2] We noticed that…

HN discussionI'm surprised we haven't seen more "real" attacks from these sorts of things, maybe it's just bc not very many people are actually running these types of MCPs (fortunately) in production. Wrote about a similar supabase case [0] a few months ago and it's interesting that despite how well known these attacks feel even the official docs don't call it out [1]. HN discussion> Over time the limitations of MCP have started to emerge. The most significant is in terms of token usage: GitHub’s official MCP on its own famously consumes tens of thousands of tokens of context, and once you’ve added a few more to that there’s precious little space left for the LLM to actually do useful work. Supabase MCP really devours your context window. IIRC, it uses 8k for its search_docs tool alone, just o…

HN discussionThis is good advice for techies, who are usually good at the “do things” and but not the “tell people”. The same principle applies to a startup/side-project. At supabase we call this “ship and shout”, which is about as simple as it sounds (Ant wrote about our full “process” here: https://supabase.com/blog/2021/11/26/supabase-how-we-launch ) The other one that took us some getting-used-to was being repetitive on plat…

HN discussionIf you are building using Supabase stack (Postgres as DB with pgVector), we just released a built-in embedding generation API yesterday. This works both locally (in CPUs) and you can deploy it without any modifications. HN discussionthis is basically supabase. their entire stack (and product) can be hosted as a series of something like 10+ docker containers: https://supabase.com/docs/guides/self-hosting/docker however, like always, 'complexity has to live somewhere'. I doubt even Opus 4.5 could handle this. as soon as you get into database records themselves, context is going to blow up and you're going to have a bad time
