  7. > we of course have no idea what actually happened since the default logging is only enabled during development Wait, if you have issues with logging, why don’t you set up opentelemetry? It’s really easy to add into a project [1], and if you don’t want to manage it, you can easily find some cost efficient solutions like Grafana Labs [2]. 13. I've recently been pondering whether to create a log receiver that will produce Prometheus metrics as well as logs for Loki. Why? Because there are several open source projects that if joined up in a relatively simple way would provide a full RUM / Analytics solution. For collecting the analytics: Akamai Boomerang, which is a descendant of Yahoo tooling https://github.com/akamai/boomerang and BSD licensed Then inser…

  15. I'll give you an example of what I mean. Let's look at the manual on variables, found at this URL: https://grafana.com/docs/grafana/latest/variables/ . Variables are shown at the top of the screen. You would assume that adding a new variable would involve a UI element placed in proximity to the existing variables. However, that's not the case at all. None of the sections in the manual would even tell you where you n…

  17. Yeah, that's pretty speculative to assume what would have been, but forking and improving/shifting direction of kibana would have been definitively possible from a license POV. Their FAQ even says: > I asked Torkel, and he said that If Kibana had been an AGPL project, Grafana would likely have been AGPL from day one. https://grafana.com/blog/2021/04/20/qa-with-our-ceo-on-relic...

  21. I'm glad you were able to find a FOSS license that's able to support your business. I think grafana lab's use of AGPL will help encourage its adoption by other businesses wanting to make money in free software as well. For other's who are interested, here's a faq from grafana including a discussion about "Why AGPL and not SSPL?": https://grafana.com/blog/2021/04/20/qa-with-our-ceo-on-relic...

  23. There's a lot of weird assumptions in this thread that this is some sort of strike against Amazon/AWS. It's not. AWS's managed grafana is built in partnership with grafana labs, and this license change won't affect it. From Grafana: "AWS is a strategic partner, and given the commercial relationship AWS has with us for AMG, AWS and their AMG customers are not impacted by this change. We hope that other XaaS providers…
