  3. Via Transportation ( https://ridewithvia.com ) | New York, NY | Full-time Onsite Via is re-engineering public transit—from a regulated system of rigid routes and schedules to a fully dynamic, on-demand network. The Via algorithm matches, in real time, multiple passengers headed the same way with a single large SUV or van. Passengers request rides through a mobile app, and Via’s systems instantly select and, if neces…

  7. If buses are autonomous, it no longer makes sense to have arbitrary routes that people need to wait at a bus stop for. They can wait in parking lots, charging their batteries, until they are summoned, and give people door-to-door transportation. It sounds like an autonomous taxi, but not necessarily. A taxi usually has only one rider, whereas a bus would have more seats, and potentially pick up and drop off other ri…

  8. This reminds me of Via[0]: "Shared rides in a premium SUV or Mercedes van. As fast as a taxi at a fraction of the price." All of the competition in ride sharing has been great in the Bay Area. UberX is sometimes in a price range closer to riding the bus or BART. [0] http://www.ridewithvia.com/

  14. VIA is the answer! Via is an on-demand transit system that takes multiple passengers heading in the same direction and books them into a shared vehicle. Think of Via as a bus that’s smart enough to come when you want it and where you want it... https://ridewithvia.com/ and https://www.viavan.com/

Seems like Uber has quite a bit of competition in the US market besides Lyft, namely: 1) Juno -- https://www.gojuno.com/ 2) Gett -- http://gett.com/nyc/ 3) Via -- http://ridewithvia.com/ Seem like all our starting out in NY, but it is just a matter of time before margins are squeezed to zero.

  17. I see the reverse. Self-driving jitneys will be able to extend public transit into the cul-de-sac subdivisions that are impervious to useful bus service. Let little 8 seat shuttles bring people out to the main line for trains or full-size busses to carry away. It is terribly inefficient to run a 50 person bus with 3 people in it, one of whom is a paid driver. See https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/autonomous-dri…
