  11. yeah nice, exactly. i like calling Temporal a "framework" for that reason - you'd have to code + provision all this stuff anyway if you're doing anything async, and you're probably not testing it properly/thinking through scalability needs or lacking debugging tools to investigate issues. I'll volunteer that we don't have Python or JS SDKs right now but are working on it ( https://github.com/temporalio/sdk-node ). i…

  13. yeah, "saga for the backend" is an appealing angle to some folks (eg our Coinbase testimonial has that) but i'm not sure how many developers know about sagas so I've been hesitant to push that too hard (bc then we'd have to teach people an extra concept before they get to us). i'd say something that is maybe hard to appreciate until you really get into it is just how much goes into making this ultra scalable with di…

  17. - Rich Hickey early Clojure talks - Lee Robinson-style tutorials - https://threejs-journey.com/ and https://www.3dfordesigners.com/ (which incidentally one can use as the basis for dynamic threejs learning pages) I think that's the biggest thing. Create a mini course on how to use the tool (e.g. a smaller version of https://css-for-js.dev/ ). That's a big lift, but then if you make that free and there's tangential b…

  25. We offer a full guide to help here at https://docs.temporal.io/self-hosted-guide and many users of all sizes self-host Temporal. Having said that, it has challenges as does running any high-available production system. We offer cloud to ease this burden. You still run all your code/workers and you can end-to-end encrypt all data.

Yes, it has undergone revisions since which caused function name mismatch (EDIT: fixed). The execute_activity there uses start_to_close_timeout which is per attempt and will retry forever by default (customizable). This is more of a primer on the Python part of Temporal rather than an explanation of all Temporal concepts in depth. Definitely would recommend reading the fundamental docs at https://docs.temporal.io/en…
