Why HN links it
HN readers link David Nolen's posts on ClojureScript, Om, React and CSP-style concurrency, citing them as background for those ideas and calling some excellent.

- Called excellent, pretty inspiring, a great introduction and well written; one says they go in depth on performance.

What Hacker News says?
In other words futures are not as composable as one would hope. John Reppy's CML seems like a much better toolbox which gets composability without pretension. Vesa Karvonen (whom I understand has worked on the MLTon compiler) has offered an excellent delivery in Hopac for C# and F# complete with a slew of combinators: https://github.com/Hopac/Hopac I'm not aware of anyone offering an alternative superior to an infor…

HN discussionI understand that there are sometimes practical reasons for not being able to use ClojureScript, but have you given it a go? It's really very, very nice (much nicer than JS in pretty much every way). * Immutable data (you can get some of this in JS with Nolen's Mori http://swannodette.github.io/mori/ ) * Better functional programming than Underscore (map :mykey some-objects) * Great syntax: homoiconicity, thrush ope…

HN discussionYes a thousand million times. This is the reason why people love golang and why there's a lot of excitement about core.async in the Clojure community, particularly for ClojureScript where we can target the last 11 years of client web browser sans callback hell: http://swannodette.github.io/2013/07/12/communicating-sequen... Having spent some time with ClojureScript core.async I believe the CSP model actually has a l…

HN discussionI've seen two libraries suggested on the React mailing list: http://swannodette.github.io/mori/ https://github.com/hughfdjackson/immutable The first one uses the same data structures from ClojureScript.

HN discussionThe first build of ClojureScript app is somewhat slow because we need boot the JVM, compile ClojureScript, and then analyze and compile your code. After the first compile it should be sub second. I always use the auto build mode and when I'm developing I don't use any optimizations. Works well enough for me. I'd start with this, http://swannodette.github.io/2013/10/27/the-essence-of-cloju...

HN discussionDavid Nolen - http://swannodette.github.io/ James Long - http://jlongster.com/ I follow these guys for similar reasons. They always seem to be a couple steps ahead of the rest of the industry and it's frankly a little embarrassing how productive they are. Come to think of it maybe I'd feel better about myself as a programmer if I stopped following them...

HN discussionPretty sure Om[1] for React Native is coming. >bloated code sizes, interop issues, poor runtime performance, etc I've heard about no such problems about ClojureScript. In fact there's less code size than you'd usually have because Google Closure Compiler advanced more works with it out of the box[2]. It's also fast because immutability. HN discussionThe source code for the post is available[1], as is the macro[2] which is loaded via XHR. The short of it is that a load function is passed to `cljs/compile-str`, which provides the mapping. In this case, it doesn't bother to do any mapping because it knows that it is loading `bar.core`. However, `bar-url` could instead be in a map from the namespace to the URL. Surprisingly simple, actually! 1. https://github.com/s…

HN discussionI agree that it sucks when the "worse" technology wins, but your points on why React is an example of one of these "worse" technologies are seriously misinformed regarding its shortcomings and have largely glossed over some of its most significant merits over existing technology. > React seems to be designed to ignore 40 years of accumulated software best practices. Best practices in software is not set in stone. So…

HN discussionGood eye, it is built with Om. We've been pretty happy with it and even published a tool to help find performance bottlenecks: https://github.com/precursorapp/om-i For the unfamiliar, Om is a ClojureScript React wrapper that makes React much nicer to work with and adds some nice performance benefits out-of-the-box. Nolan's intro post is pretty inspiring: http://swannodette.github.io/2013/12/17/the-future-of-javasc...
