What Hacker News says?

  1. Awesome! I think it would be great if editors could help users to not only format their contents, but also to write better. Another idea in sort of similar direction is doing automated link suggestions: http://bergie.iki.fi/blog/automated-linking/

  3. This is pretty cool! I'm the developer of a semi-automatic electronic logbook system for sailboats: https://bergie.iki.fi/blog/electronic-logbook/ Right now I'm using YAML for the file format, as I wanted something that would be reasonably readable for both humans and machines. Markwhen would also fit the bill nicely, so that's something to consider, at least as an export format. My entries have a lot of properties,…

  5. https://bergie.iki.fi/ I've been running this on and off since 1997, and writing about anything that interests me. Mostl about various travels and open source projects I'm involved with. Lately a lot of data flow programming, sailing, and IoT (and in some cases all of those together). I've collected what I consider my best posts into https://bergie.iki.fi/blog/category/bestof/

  9. Back in 2011 I built a JS-based thing for making essentially any website editable: https://bergie.iki.fi/blog/introducing_the_midgard_create_us... This required you to add a bit of RDFa markup to identify the editable parts (including collections, so you could add a news item or whatever), and then had a Backbone.js plugin setup for implementing saving to your chosen CMS. This all could likely be done easier today.…

  17. not entirely true. Gnome has a first class language - Vala [1] - that is for writing performant system level applications. And the community is quite active as well - https://github.com/trending?l=vala If you think of automation, there have been attempts at bringing flow based programming to the Gnome-JS engine (think of it as Quartz Composer integrated into the desktop) [3] - plus the fact that http://extensions.gn…

  23. I built a reasonably similar ranking system a few years ago, but also taking social media interaction (blog links, delicious bookmarks, etc) with the content items being ranked into account: http://bergie.iki.fi/blog/calculating_news_item_relevance/ You can see it in action on maemo.org: http://maemo.org/news/ PHP sources: http://trac.midgard-project.org/browser/branches/ragnaroek/m...
