The author can try to find work with IOHK ( https://iohk.io/ ), the Cardano foundation ( https://cardano.org/ ) or one of several other companies doing commercial or research work around Cardano.

  17. I'm really surprised by how uneducated most of HN are about blockchain. This means we're still early. Few big things that are coming out of blockchain; 1) ICO - a way to raise money in a distributed manner outside the traditional financial system (think Banks and VCs). 2) Defi - a way to borrow and lend (and much more) outside the traditional financial system. One example, Banks get as much as 16-20% return on your…

  19. Take a look at cardano. They have implemented a blockchain that is backed by peer reviewed [1] research, the article here talks about how the blockchain takes a huge amount of resources to run. The people at the cardano project has managed to enable people to even run a full block producing node on something as small as a pi[2][3]. So far from all the blockchain projects I am interested in, this is my favorite one s…

  21. IOHK who is behind Cardano does quite a lot of scentific research and formalized and developed innovative concepts: https://iohk.io/en/research/library/ . It's still very experimental and yes, there are no clear applications yet, but there is some genuine research being made.

There's a good write up of how Cardano, the blockchain project, uses Nix. Not surprising, given that Nix was a academic research project, and Cardano has a good network of academic researchers working to solve hard blockchain problems. https://iohk.io/en/blog/posts/2019/02/06/how-we-use-nix-at-i...

  25. You're off by probably an order of magnitude. You can absolutely scale this organization to 100+ engineers. I've worked at a company with ~30 Haskell developers and I was involved in hiring most of them without lowering our hiring bar. If we really needed more it would have been quite easy to lower the bar a little and increase the numbers significantly. Here's another example of a company that has a large Haskell t…

  29. > Why do we do this, still? Is it not irresponsible? One reason is security - if cryptography isn't done in constant time then there is the potential for timing attacks. This is why BitCoinJ ditched BouncyCastle for their own JNI wrapper around BitCoin's libsecp256k1. There is a rust client for Ethereum, called Parity - they do FFI calls to libsecp256k1. Similarly rust-crypto vendors most of its crypto in C that it…
