Why HN links it

Linked as a reference for JuiceFS, a POSIX file system over object storage, mostly via its docs, comparisons, performance evaluations and case studies. Comments point to it without judging the writing.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 22 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

JuiceFS is a cloud-based high-performance distributed file system, based on object storage and database to achieve data and metadata separation architecture, easily carrying tens of billions of file storage, to meet the random read performance requirements of big data, AI, autonomous driving, gene s

  5. JuiceFS isn't standalone, it requires separate backing storage for each of data [0] and metadata. So for example, JuiceFS would target SeaweedFS or GarageFS as its data store. JuiceFS can also target the local file system, but .. SDS use cases typically care about things like redundancy and availability of the data itself, things that JuiceFS happily delegates. JuiceFS itself can be distributed, but that's merely th…

  11. So many fuse mount options out there with varying tradeoffs, performance, and features (s3fs, goofys, seaweed, minio, Google drive, etc..). JuiceFS is pretty interesting for doing things like mounting an object store and accessing it via posix with all the metadata you would expect on a traditional filesystem. https://juicefs.com

  15. JuiceFS can used in AWS EMR cluster, we have customers using JuiceFS to address the consistency and performance issues from S3. There is a blog post [1] talking about this use case. Unfortunately, we have not publish a English version, you can read it using google translate . [1] https://juicefs.com/blog/cn/posts/globalegrow-big-data-platf... 17. We see similar results using JuiceFS [1], are glad to see that another player has moved on the same direction with us, since JuiceFS was released to public in 2017, and is available on most of public cloud vendor. The architect of JuiceFS is simper than HopsFS, it does not have worker nodes (the client access S3 and manage cache directly), and the metadata is stored in highly optimized server (similar to NN in HDFS,…

  19. Docusaurus is great! We migrated from Sphinx to Docusaurus[1] recently, the navigation is much better than before. One thing that bothers us: we have not figure a way to name the anchor that both work in Github (`<span id='aws-s3'/>`) and Docusaurus (` {#aws-s3}`), for example [2]. Any ideas? 27. If you have good network, JuiceFS is the thing you are looking for. Multiple hosts can mount the same volume and it just works without conflicts. If the network is slow and unreliable, the experience will be bad, all fs operations will be blocked if meta server is not available, since JuiceFS is a CP system. 29. See also: JuiceFS: https://juicefs.com/ Adds a DBMS or key-value store for metadata, making the filesystem much faster (POSIX, small overwrites don't have to replace a full object in the GCS/S3 backend). Almost certainly a better solution if you want to turn your object storage into a mountable filesystem, with the (big) caveat that you can't access the files directly in the bucket (they are not stored transparently…
