What Hacker News says?

  1. Aside from the initial load that all Electron apps suffer from, Insomnia feels pretty snappy to me. Granted, I only have a few dozens of API that load 20KB of JSON max. https://insomnia.rest/

  5. I switched to insomnia when postman changed their pricing pulling the rug out from everyone wanting us to pay like $300 more per month. (Before they back tracked) https://insomnia.rest/ I actually prefer it.

  9. I've been using https://insomnia.rest/ and I am a massive fan. From the ability to make dependent API calls to say log in with one API call, and inject login tokens into the other from the first's response is amazing! Overall this tool has been my go-to for 3 years now.

  13. As someone with many failed side projects, I can tell you that having a goal of making money is usually a bad thing. Like many other people have said, you can learn the skills. The hardest part of building a side project is finding the time and staying motivated for more than a few months. So, pick something _you_ will use and, if you enjoy building/using it, so will others. Obviously think about ways to monetize it…

  15. You are not alone! I just checked the Git history and it seems we were indeed mistaken, at least since 2017. It might have been just hard to see from the website. 17. I used to recommend https://insomnia.rest/ as it was a free, sleek alternative... Alas it's been bought by Kong and enterprise'd up the same way. Not as bad yet, but can't be long.

  19. I ditched Postman for Insomnia (Open source) after Postman refused to adhere to customers to disable auto-updates for 6 years+. I checked on their GitHub issue tracker and it turns out, the solution was to upgrade to their "Enterprise plan". https://github.com/postmanlabs/postman-app-support/issues/69... So, I said fuck it and switched to a real, open source alternative, Insomnia, instead: https://insomnia.rest

  23. Postman has a tonne of features, but this also makes the UI more difficult to learn an use. This is one of the reasons I created Insomnia. P.S. Insomnia also has code generation https://insomnia.rest/documentation/code-snippets/

  29. If you would like an alternative that is still GUI, I personally switched from Postman to Insomnia ( https://insomnia.rest/ ) in the last year and haven't looked back. It has been acquired recently, but it's still open source and very lean. Definitely recommend, you can even directly import your Postman collections if you used them.
