  5. I've seen https://waffle.io/ talked about in previous posts, but haven't used it or Taiga. Github issues is painful enough in the past that, for companies I've been in at least, we used other issue trackers anyway (Jira and Pivotal specifically) so I'm not sure how market there is outside of open-source. For me, Taiga looks like a nicer solution for private projects (replacing redmine, trac, etc.)

That said, I enjoyed having a look at Mozilla's internal project management tool for this extension, https://waffle.io/mozilla-lockbox/lockbox-extension I wish I could have the same kind of look into other company's projects.

  13. Communicating the progress of a project or feature is something really important I think open-source people need to realize, when they have a fairly non-technical audience. I think GitHub milestones are central to productivity and communicating progress to a base of interested parties, so I would recommend focusing on milestones specifically—also to encourage their use—rather than showing one huge list of issues by…

  15. To give you a real example, I recently talked with the founder of Neovim who chose Waffle to manage their large open source project ( https://waffle.io/blog/2014/04/17/open-source-spotlight-neov... ). The main reason they used Waffle over Trello was the integration with GitHub Issues (the Trello-Github integration options aren't great, and there's difficulty around trying to get people to update the status of work i…

  17. the benefit of open sourcing my code is that other people can use it or contribute to it. why would i ever want to open source my task queue? if this is a valid use case, how does this really differ from something like Github issues or a public Trello board? comparing https://waffle.io/waffleio/waffle.io to https://trello.com/b/nC8QJJoZ/trello-development i'm having trouble differentiating.

  21. That's very much true. We've been pushing for more transparency company-wide as a result. It's hard to demonstrate that we'll handle this better without another security incident to be transparent about (and let's all hope we don't get there), but we've been pushing for more transparency overall. On my team this means that we're doing our development in the open, we've switched from an internal Jira to a public waff…

My take is that there is real value by integrating your issue tracker with your source repo. If you start with Jira, it's not surprising you would end up with Bitbucket. If you start with Github, it is very easy to use the Github issues tracker. And, if you want extra Github issues functionality (like a Kanban view), I recommend https://waffle.io .

Have you seen / used [Waffle]( http://waffle.io ) before? It's pretty much exactly this. It's free for open source projects and has a monthly fee for private ones. It's what I've used for a while, and my team at work uses it. It's pretty mature and has lots of features like creating your own columns, multiple repositories in a single board, integrations for tests/builds, PRs, and so forth.
